Case Study

Design & Development

Veggie Bestie is my first iOS app. I designed and built it on my own, from the first sketches to the App Store. It started as an experiment: could a habit tracker feel less like another task and more like a reward? So I kept it deliberately small: one habit, one check-in a day, right from your watch face.

Design decisions

Make the reward bigger than the task

Checking in takes one tap. What you get back is bigger: each check-in grows your garden, from days to weeks and eventually years.

A story that unfolds daily

Each check-in unlocks the next beat in an ongoing story, plus a little affirmation. I drafted the story beats by hand before bringing them to the watch.

Low pressure when you miss a day

Miss a day and, well… your Bestie is cooked. Instead of guilt, one tap replants it so you can start growing again.

Check in from your watch face

With the complication, you can water your Bestie and see your streak right on your watch face, without opening the app.

Launch

Veggie Bestie went live on the App Store in September 2026, and I launched it publicly in October. It’s free, with no account and no ads, and it’s fully accessible.

What I learned

  • Start with the smallest version of the idea

  • Make the reward bigger than the task

  • Design failure to feel low pressure

  • Build accessibility in from the start
